UTTERLY NATURAL SHIRT 6: PLANT DYED, HANDLOOMED

$95.00

An open-front shirt in our Utterly Natural Shirts series. The shirt is the result of three layers of crafts employing human hands. The yarn was dyed in all-natural plant dyes, woven into fabric by a family of weavers and made into a shirt to your measurements by a tailor in their own workshop. The shirt has a classic collar. It is a very easy shirt to wear, the sort you forget after you have it on for a while. Meant to be worn un-tucked, it’s a roomy, airy and perfectly casual shirt. The fabric was hand-loomed by a family of weavers from yarn that was dyed with pure plant indigo. A pattern will be cut and the shirt made for you once you order and submit your measurements.

  • FABRIC

100% Hand-loomed cotton, was dyed with plant indigo. The green stripes running through the fabric is yarn dyed with indigo and pomegranate peel to get this vibrant green.

  • CONSTRUCTION

The shirt was crafted entirely by hand, essentially as it was a hundred years ago, using nothing more than a sewing machine, some thread and a needle. Stitching is durable and the shirt is made to last.

    – The seams are flat-felled, meaning once sewn, turned over and sewn again to make them stronger.
    – The sides are strengthened by hand-sewn gussets.
    – The shirt has a split yoke in the back.
    – The collars and cuffs are softly constructed by hand and are unfused.
    – Misaligned sleeve and side seams for an ease in movement.
    – The buttons are natural shell and sewn by hand on to each shirt.

  • MILL

This fabric was spun into yarn by a family of weavers and woven into this fabric on a hand-operated loom that uses no electricity. This family of weavers has been practicing its craft for generations. All around, a very good fabric for your well-being and for that of all involved. Dyed and woven in Sindh near Karachi.

  • CARE

For a long life of the shirt, it’s best to hand wash and lay it flat to dry. Can also be machine-washed or dry cleaned.
